Meeting of the roundtable for young researchers and representatives of nuclear energy sector on the topic: “Perspectives of Innovations Implementation in Nuclear Power Engineering of Ukraine” was held on September 28, 2018 at the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Power Engineering of NAS of Ukraine. The roundtable took place in the Gas Institute of NAS of Ukraine in association with Council of Young Researchers and Youth Section of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society.
Young researchers of the Institute for Safety Problems of NPPs of NAS of Ukraine, the Institute for Nuclear Research of NAS of Ukraine, the Gas Institute of NAS of Ukraine, National Science Center Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology, National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, the Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems Problems of NAS of Ukraine, representatives of Ukrainian Nuclear Society, NNEGC “Energoatom”, Commodum engineering Ltd participated in the roundtable work.
Roundtable format included presentations of results of researches in the power industry and discussions of possibilities of practical application of scientific developments in Nuclear Power Complex of Ukraine.
The roundtable started its work from the opening speech of Oleksandr Khomych, the Head of Youth Section of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society, who pointed out that: “… today it is necessary for operating organizations to cooperate closely with scientists for solving problems occurring during NPPs operation, necessity of units’ lifetime extension and NPPs decommissioning”.
Presented reports were dedicated to such directions: lifetime extension of the power units, development of technologies of deposition of protective pyrocarbon coating for needs of nuclear power engineering, solving problems while power units decommissioning, development of energy efficient and ecologically safe technology of producing nuclear pure graphite.
Serhii Kupriyanchuk, junior researcher of the NPPs Decommissioning Department of the Institute for Safety Problems of NPPs, presented the report about use of the innovative technologies while ChNPP decommissioning and the Shelter object transformation into an ecologically safe system.
Some famous scientists participated at the meeting, among them: Viktor Zhovtyansky, Head of the Plasma Processes and Technologies Department of the Gas Institute of NAS of Ukraine, corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, who presented the speech about use of plasma for verification of radioactive materials; Borys Bondarenko, director of the Gas Institute of NAS of Ukraine, academician of NAS of Ukraine, doctor of technical sciences, professor, who reported about researches directed to solving problems of Nuclear Power Complex. He set forth results of the researches in his report “Nano liquids for extreme cooling of nuclear reactor”.
During the discussion Yurii Stepanenko, a researcher of the Institute for Nuclear Research of NAS of Ukraine, PhD in physical and mathematical sciences, paid his attention to the fact that besides development of innovations for nuclear power engineering, researches in other directions of nuclear physics use, which can be implemented in practice, in particular, in medicine, are conducting in Ukraine.
Such measures can assist in formation of cooperation between scientists and specialists of power engineering of Ukraine.
