Working group meeting on application of IAEA Safeguards

    12 June, 2018, a meeting of the high level working group on application of IAEA Safeguards in Ukraine took place at the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.

   Participants of working group are the following: representatives of IAEA headed by DirHaroldo Barroso Junior, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine headed by Chairman Hryhory Plachkov, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, headed by Head Vitalii Petruk, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Mining, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP, NAS of Ukraine, the National Science Center «Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology», Kyiv Institute for Nuclear Research,  NNEGC «Energoatom». Institute for Safety Problems of NPP at the meeting was represented by Director, corr. member NAS of Ukraine Anatolii Nosovskyi and Head of the Department of Atomic Power Engineering Volodymyr Borysenko.

    The following issues were discussed at the meeting: practice of unannounced IAEA inspections implementation in Ukraine; organization of inspections for spent fuel assemblies with a long cooling period; state of works at the Intermediate Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel of «dry» type of the Chornobyl NPP (SF SNF-2); putting into operation schedule for the New Safe Confinement; construction of Centralized Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel.

     During the meeting, it was decided to organize a training workshop for specialists of scientific institutions carrying out the research works concerning theoretical and computer research, software or hardware design and operation procedures to prevent the criticality of systems for heat removal in case of loss of coolant, instruments and equipment for reactor control. Relevant work information is granted to the IAEA in accordance with the Additional Protocol to the Safeguards Agreement due to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. IAEA representatives noted the completeness and detailing the information provided by the ISP NPP, NAS of Ukraine for 2017 in accordance with mentioned Additional Protocol.
