International Panel with Ukrainian Nuclear Society in the Framework of the INUDECO 2021
In the framework of the Conference INUDECO 2021 with the participation of scientists of the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP of the NAS of Ukraine, the International panel with Ukrainian Nuclear Society on the topic “35th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster: from the past to the future” was held on April 27, 2021. The event was conducted with participation of the European Nuclear Society. The format was used for the first time in the practice of cooperation between Organizing Committee of the International Conference INUDECO 2021 and Ukrainian Nuclear Society.
150 representatives of the European Union countries and Ukraine participated in the work of the International panel online.
The main task of the Institute scientists was to get international scientific society acquainted with information on the state of researches in Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and, in particular, at the Chornobyl NPP industrial site. Considerable attention was paid to the issues of the Shelter object transformation into an ecologically safe system and thorny scientific problems originated to the specialists in this direction.
Danylo Lavrenov, Executive Secretary of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society, moderated the International panel.
ISP NPP scientists presented the following reports:
- “Current state of the radioactively contaminated territories of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and existing ecological hazard” – speaker Serhii Paskevych, Deputy Director on Research of the ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine;
- “Decommissioning of the Chornobyl NPP and prospects of the site development” – Viktor Kuchynskyi, Deputy Director of the Chornobyl NPP Strategic Planning Department;
- “Activity on the Shelter object transformation into an ecologically safe system” – Maksym Saveliev, senior researcher of the ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine;
“Current state of the radiation and nuclear safety of the Shelter object” – Roman Godun, Head of the Nuclear Safety Department of the ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine.
Given information attracted interest of the specialists who address issues of the nuclear safety. We hope that such format of the communication will become a tradition for the Ukrainian Nuclear Society as well as future improvement of the International Conference INUDECO.
