Workshop on NATO Project “Reliable Nuclear Materials Identification Technology from Spectrometry Data”

    From July 18 to July 21, 2019, the American delegation from the Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences Department of Clemson University (South Carolina, USA) arrived to participate the workshop on NATO program “Science for Peace and Security” project NUKR.SFPP G5094 “Reliable nuclear materials identification technology from spectrometry data”. The Ukrainian project participants from the National University T. Shevchenko, Institute of Environmental Geochemistry and Institute of Safety Problems of NPPs of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine also took part in the workshop. The workshop agenda included reports on the work done, a technical visit to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant with survey in the New Safe Confinement, an introduction to history of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and with measures and means ensuring the safety of personnel at radiation hazardous facilities. Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department Viktor Krasnov, head of the department Tatyana Vlasenko, head of the sector Aleksander Kalynovskyi took part in the seminar from the Institute of Safety of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

      Employees of the Institute of Environmental Geochemistry demonstrated the possibility of identifying gamma-emitting sources using unmanned aerial vehicles.

    According to the results of the workshop the participants summarized and approved the project results for the past period and formulated the tasks at the final stage.
