Business Trip of IBP NPP NAS of Ukraine Employees within the EURIZON FELLOWSHIP Research Project ECOSCREEN
From February 8 to 16, 2025, employees of the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (ISP NPP) undertook a business trip to Riga Technical University (Latvia) and the University of Tartu (Estonia) as part of the EURIZON FELLOWSHIP European personnel exchange project, funded by the European Union. The main objectives of the trip were to exchange experience, discuss interim research results, and plan further collaboration.

During the visit, Volodymyr Ivanovych Gulik, Head of the MMNI Sector of the DDRNTF, and Maryna Ivanivna Holiuk, 2nd-category Engineer of the MMNI Sector of the DDRNTF at ISP NPP, participated in working meetings. They presented research findings on concrete with the addition of five types of fibers modified with boron, hafnium, yttrium, and gadolinium oxides, developed within the ECOSCREEN project. To assess the shielding properties of these materials, neutron, photon, and secondary photon transport calculations were performed using Monte Carlo codes: Serpent, MCNP, and OpenMC.

During the trip, meetings were held with partners from Riga Technical University and the University of Tartu to discuss prospects for further collaboration, the preparation of joint publications based on research results, and opportunities for engaging new scientific partners.
This business trip contributed to strengthening international cooperation and scientific exchange in the field of innovative radiation shielding materials development. The obtained results will be used for further experimental studies and the development of publications in international scientific journals.
