The study guide “Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants”
The study guide “Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants” was published by the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP of the NAS of Ukraine. It was prepared by the authors: A. V. Nosovskyi, V. K. Kuchynskyi, A. I. Savin, M. V. Saveliev, and L. M. Salii, under the general editorship of A. V. Nosovskyi.
The guide has been recommended for print by the Methodological Council of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute as a study guide for students pursuing higher education in the specialty “Nuclear Power Engineering.”
The guide presents an overview of the decommissioning process of the nuclear power plant units, including such elements as decontamination, dismantling of reactor facility equipment and structural components of the NPP, as well as radioactive waste management. The book includes a description of current technological processes involved in decommissioning, an analysis of international experience in nuclear installations decommissioning at foreign NPP sites, as well as at the Chornobyl NPP site.
The guide is primarily intended for students of higher education institutions, postgraduates, nuclear power plants specialists who are involved in decommissioning issues. The book may also be of interest to economists, engineers, nuclear safety specialists, as well as research and project organizations employees engaged in developments in this field. Additionally, it will be useful for engineering and technical specialists in nuclear energy sector who wish to enhance and classify their knowledge in the area of NPP decommissioning.
The materials presented in this book are intended for readers who possess a basic background in nuclear power plants, corresponding to the standard curriculum of higher education programs.
