XVII International Forum “Fuel and Energy Complex of Ukraine: The Present and The Future”
XVII International Forum “Fuel and Energy Complex of Ukraine: the Present and the Future” was held on November 5-7, 2019 at the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv. The main aim of the Forum was promoting the implementation of the “Energy Strategy of Ukraine up to 2035” to ensure safe and efficient operation of the whole country’s energy system, state energy independence and security; demonstration of achievements in the energy sector aimed at modernization of the energy infrastructure, its technological, organizational, regulatory and scientific development.
In the course of the Forum Nuclear Power Day “Nuclear Power in the period of transformation. How to preserve the potential for future technologies implementation” was conducted on November 6. The event was opened with the speech of Yurii Nedashkovskyi, the President of NNEGC “Energoatom”: “…On one hand the state fully uses economic and ecological benefits of Nuclear Power. Often it “patches holes” and closes its gaps at the expense of the nuclear industry. On the other – the state does not want to see what you have to pay for it”. He emphasized that state institutions set alternative tasks before Nuclear Power: “The State demands from its own Nuclear Power for miserable means to be at the same time effective (i.e. to produce as cheap electric energy as possible) and to execute large-scale programs on modernization and safety improvement, power units lifetime extension and in addition to bear the burden of social charges and to accumulate means for decommissioning withdrawing them to the state budget where they disappear without a trace for the next holes patching”.
Yurii Nedashkovskyi offered to participants to find the answer for the question: “What should be done for breaking this awful format of relationships that hardly can be called cooperation”.
Participants of the Forum tried to find possible variants of problems solving defined by the President of NNEGC “Energoatom”. The Forum was conducted in the format of the round table at three strategic panels:
- State and the Nuclear Power: vectors of cooperation for increase of economy and high social standards;
- Nuclear Power and business. In pursuit of points of increase;
