ХV International Scientific and Technical Conference of Young Researchers and Specialists “Problems of Modern Nuclear Power Engineering”

   The XV International Scientific and Technical Conference of Young Researchers and Specialists “Problems of Modern Nuclear Power Engineering” was held on November 13-15, 2019, in V. N. Karasin Kharkiv National University. The conference was organized by the “Ukrainian Nuclear Society” (UkrNS). The conference began with speeches of prominent scientists of the NAS of Ukraine and members of the Board of UkrNS. The program of the conference included three section meetings in the following thematic areas:

• Public relations in the nuclear industry. Development of the nuclear power complex in Ukraine. Materials for nuclear power.
• Improvement of safety and efficiency of NPP operation. Extension of the lifetime of power units and management of the aging of NPP equipment.
• Nuclear, radiation and environmental safety in the management of radioactive waste and SNF.

   From the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP of NAS of Ukraine, a series of reports related to the Shelter object transformation into an ecologically safe system was presented at the conference, in particular:

Serhii Kupriyanchuk, junior researcher of NPP Decommission Department, presented a report “Modeling of the characteristics of the Shelter’s nuclear materials to create a design of prototype of containers”;

   Anatolii Doroshenko, junior researcher of Nuclear Safety Department, presented a report “Assessment of the effectiveness of the nuclear safety control system of the NSC-SO complex”;

   Maksym Pashinov, junior researcher of NPP Decommission Department, presented a report “Simulation of metal farm dismantle reinforcement of the Shelter object roof. Calculation of accumulated doses of personnel in the course of radiation-hazardous work”;

   Serhii Stadnik, junior researcher of Nuclear Safety Department, presented a report “Methodology for EMF calibration in the NSC-OS”.

   The reports, presented by the ISP NPP scientists, provoked widespread discussion and debate in the scientific community. The participants of the conference expressed their interest and concern about the problems affecting the safety of the Shelter object and the work on its transformation into an environmentally safe system. Reporting an information component on the new scientific tasks, facing ChNPP and the Shelter object, will entail possible future reunions of scientists over new research projects in these areas.
