A Message from Academician Anatolii Nosovskyi to the Institute’s Colleagues and International Partners
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
After ten years of serving as Director of the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, I have concluded my tenure in this position.
As I step into a new chapter of my professional life, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your trust, partnership, and unwavering support throughout these years. It has been both an honour and a privilege to work together with you in addressing some of the most important scientific and technological challenges in the field of nuclear safety.
Together, we have developed and implemented numerous collaborative research projects, expanded our international scientific partnerships, strengthened institutional cooperation, and advanced research in nuclear safety, radioactive waste management, nuclear facility decommissioning, and the mitigation of the consequences of the Chornobyl accident. These achievements would not have been possible without your commitment, expertise, and confidence in our Institute.
The past several years have brought unprecedented challenges for Ukraine and for the scientific community. During the Russian occupation of the city of Chornobyl, our Institute suffered extensive damage to its laboratory, research, and administrative infrastructure as a result of looting and destruction. Yet, thanks to the solidarity and support of our international partners, our team was able to restore critical facilities, resume research activities, and continue fulfilling our scientific mission under exceptionally difficult circumstances.
Your support – both professional and personal – has meant more than words can adequately express. I remain deeply grateful for your confidence, your friendship, and your willingness to stand with Ukraine and our scientific community during these difficult times.
I take great pride in the fact that the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants has earned the trust of leading research organizations, industrial partners, and international institutions around the world. I am confident that the Institute will continue to build upon this strong foundation, further expand its international cooperation, and make meaningful contributions to strengthening nuclear safety, both in Ukraine and globally.
Following the decision of the Institute’s Assembly of Research Staff and the Resolution of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Borysenko was appointed Director of the Institute, effective 26 June 2026. Under the same Resolution, I will continue serving the Institute as an Adviser to the Directorate.
I am convinced that this leadership transition will ensure continuity in our scientific activities, preserve the momentum of our national and international projects, and further strengthen the partnerships we have built together over many years. The Institute remains firmly committed to scientific excellence, integrity, professionalism, and international collaboration, and I have every confidence that our shared initiatives will continue to flourish and deliver valuable results.
Although my responsibilities have changed, my commitment to our common goals and to our international scientific cooperation remains unchanged. I sincerely look forward to continuing our collaboration in my new capacity.
