Training seminar on radiation safety “Radiation Safety Study Lab” on the sidelines of the INUDECO conference

From August 7 to 11, a Radiation Safety Laboratory was held in Slavutych, a satellite city of Chornobyl. All participants received a certificate of advanced training on the topic “Dosimetry and protection against ionizing radiation”, and the knowledge provided in theory and practice will be used at their workplaces.

The five-day program included lectures and workshops on radiation reconnaissance and radiation protection, and one should not forget about the cultural program – city tours, a visit to the Chornobyl museum and a charity concert.

During this time, we had the opportunity to talk with the mayor of Slavutych, Yurii Fomichev, about the transformation of Slavutych into a nuclear science cluster through the joint efforts of partners.  After all, the Radiation Safety Study Lab has become a powerful tool for getting to know experts, young scientists and students, the result of which was the presentation of media projects about radiation exposure in various areas of Slavutych.

Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the NAS of Ukraine also contributed to the implementation of the school, the Head of the Department for Radiation Safety, Quality Management and Occupational Safety Viktor Andreev and Senior Researchers Maxim Saveliev and Olena Pareniuk joined as organizers and lecturers.

Once again, we sincerely thank all the organizers, namely the Regional Development Agency of the Slavutych City Council;  State Specialized Enterprise “Chornobyl NPP” (SSE ChNPP);  The branch NTUU “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” in the city of Slavutych; Separate Division of the SE NNEGC “Energoatom”; “Atomremontservice”; The Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems Problems of the NAS of Ukraine (IMMSP NASU);  PO “Ukrainian Nuclear Society”; University of Bristol (England) and University of Berkeley (USA) for a significant contribution to the development of the community of specialists in nuclear energy.

Special thanks to the INUDECO conference and the organizers, who did everything possible to make the Radiation Safety Study Lab pass at the highest level.  We are building a network of experts together!
