Inudeco 2023 Сonference in Slavutych
On April 27-28, 2023, the VIII International Conference on Nuclear Decommissioning and Environmental Recovery INUDECO 2023 was held in the city of Slavutych, in the online format of an open discussion using the Zoom resource. This year, the theme of the conference is “INUDECO. Nuclear energy: the challenges of war”.
One of the co-organizers of the conference is the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine).
165 people representing 30 institutions from 20 countries of the world took part in the conference. The conference lasted 2 days, during which time 63 reports were heard.
The conference was opened by the speeches of the mayor of Slavutych city, Yurii Fomichev, director of the ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, Anatolii Nosovskyi, head of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management, Yevgenii Kramarenko, Technical director (Chief engineer) of the Chornobyl NPP, Oleksandr Tytarchuk.
Director of the ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine, Anatolii Nosovsky, conveyed to the participants of the conference greetings from the President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Anatolii Zagorodnyi. In his speech, he particularly noted that the experience of the nuclear power industry during the war in Ukraine is unique and needs to be analyzed and recommendations developed to improve the readiness of nuclear facilities to ensure security during a military threat. In addition, Anatolii Nosovskyi expressed his sincere gratitude to fellow scientists from Poland, Japan, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, China and other countries for the charitable, material and technical assistance provided to our scientific institutions, and whose actions help Ukrainian scientists to fulfill scientific research in this very difficult time for Ukrainian science.
The moderators of the conference were Aryna Starovoitova – Director of the Regional Development Agency of Slavutych; Maksym Saveliev – Senior researcher of the ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine; Danylo Lavrenov is the Executive secretary of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society.
The scientific community, as well as international organizations in the nuclear sphere, analyzed the experience of the war in Ukraine, talked about nuclear generation in the conditions of post-war recovery, nuclear and radiation safety of the country, as well as the development and social challenges of satellite cities at the current stage, discussed the issue of handling radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, the state of implementation of the project to transform the Shelter object into an ecologically safe system, decommissioning of nuclear power plants.
