International Workshop on Application of Advanced Plant Information Systems for Nuclear Decommissioning and Life-cycle Management

International workshop on Application of Advanced Plant Information Systems for Nuclear Decommissioning and Life-cycle Management was held on December 3-5, 2018, in Lillehammer (Norway). The workshop was organized by the Institute for Energy Technology (Norway), the IAEA, Nuclear Energy Agency and others.

The main research area of the workshop was focused on different ways of using advanced software, mainly software complexes of 3D modeling for visualization of nuclear and radiation hazardous objects decommissioning.

Scientists from Norway, France, Finland, Germany, Spain, Japan, Ukraine, South Korea and China presented their groundworks in the field of 3D modeling of the dismantling processes at the workshop.

Serhii Paskevych, the Head of the NPP Decommission Department, represented the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP, NAS of Ukraine. He presented 3D model of the Shelter object developed in the Institute and explained the potential of its using while unstable constructions dismantling. Moreover, within the framework of the workshop Serhii Paskevych presented software complex VRdoseplanner. Visualization of steel trusses dismantling works implemented in the ISP NPP using the software complex and of the radiation level of the personnel while working in radiation hazardous conditions at the Shelter object roofing was estimated.

Experts of the workshop mentioned that decommissioning of Chornobyl NPP Units 1-3 and the Shelter object transformation into an ecologically safe system have great potential in development and information technologies application.
