Training at the Jozef Stefan Institute
Training course for young scientists and postgraduates supported by the STEP (Sandwich Training Educational Program) program was conducted in the Joğef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, (Slovenia) from February 16 to May 16, 2019.The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) organized this program, The program helps young scientists to work on their researches at ICTP, IAEA or in other world-class research institutes. The program involves attending training courses for three months each year for three years.

Serhii Kupriianchuk, junior researcher of the NPP Decommission Department of the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP of NAS of Ukraine – participated in the training course. His scientific work is to develop the design of a protective container for fuel-containing materials (FCM) of the destroyed 4th Unit of the Chornobyl NPP.
During the training course, the first stage of scientific work was carried out. Results of the work are determination of the basic safety criteria for FCM storage in a container, the isotopic composition of the spent nuclear fuel of RBMK-1000, its activity and energy spectrum.

The obtained data were used for calculation the dose rate on the surface of the container within a simple model of container with FCM. The results of the first stage will be presented at the 28th International Conference Nuclear Energy for a New Europe in Portoroz (Slovenia). Also, according to the results of the research report approved by the IAEA experts was prepared.
