Training course for Ukrainian engineers and scientists in Prague

    On May 30-31, 2023, in Prague (Czech Republic), the intergovernmental organization “Science and Technology Center in Ukraine” in cooperation with the non-profit global security organization “Coalescion” and with the assistance of USAID organized a two-day training course “Research Vetting, Individual Cybersecurity, and Knowledge Security Training”.

     The work of the training course was opened by the Senior Deputy Executive Director from Ukraine, Mykola Lubiv.

     Director of the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine, Professor Anatolii Nosovskyi made a welcome speech on behalf of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In his speech, he conveyed greetings from the President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Anatoly Zahorodny.

     During the course, the participants gained new knowledge and skills regarding the security of websites, phishing, methods of protecting personal data and electronic mailboxes, risk assessment and personal responsibility, issues of conducting scientific research and data preservation, dual-use technologies, intellectual property issues and technology transfer and security in the context of the challenges faced in building new collaborations and funding work in unfamiliar circumstances:

• Research vetting to identify legitimate opportunities for funding, collaboration, or employment.
• Technology transfer and the stages/decision points from the view of the individual researcher.
• Risk assessment tools to mitigate security vulnerabilities in research security settings.
• Cybersecurity trends and solutions.
• Dual-use threats and risks associated with infrastructure, materials, consumables, and information.
• Internet protocol (IP) protection, including strategies for navigating uncertain contexts.
• Scientific ethics to include common standards, best practices, and avoiding pitfalls.

     From the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP of the NAS of Ukraine, the Director of the Institute, Academician Anatolii Nosovskyi and the Head of the Sector Volodymyr Gulik participated in the training course.

    At the end of the training course, all participants received certificates of attendance.
