Participation in the International Conference ” Processing of Liquid Radioactive Waste: Ukrainian Context”

    On June 30, 2022, the Scientific and Practical International Conference “Processing of Liquid Radioactive Waste: Ukrainian Context” was held in Kyiv online. The co-organizers of the conference were the Alfa Atom company, SI “The Institute of Environmental Geochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”, the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the NAS of Ukraine, the SE “Centralized Enterprise for Radioactive Waste Management”, the SSE “ECOCENTER”, the EU project “Pre-disposal Management of Radioactive Waste” – PREDIS, Professional Association of Environmentalists of Ukraine, National University “Lviv Polytechnic”, All-Ukrainian Innovative Ecosystem “Sikorsky Challenge Ukraine”.

    The conference was devoted to the discussion of radioactive waste problems in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine; an innovative solution for radioactive waste management in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone; possibilities of financing the processing of radioactive waste in Ukraine and the EU.

    More than 50 participants from Ukraine, Finland, France, Japan, and Korea participated in the conference. About 20 reports were made and discussed. Viktor Krasnov, Head of the Division for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the NAS of Ukraine, made a welcome speech and a report: “Sorption-coagulation treatment of liquid radioactive waste of complex composition using new inorganic coagulants and sorbents.”

    Round table of the conference: Innovative solutions for the radioactive waste management in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone was moderated by Maksym Saveliev, a senior researcher at the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the NAS of Ukraine.
