Scientific Workshop and International Conference in the UK
Scientific Workshop “Ab Initio Nuclear Theory: from Breakthroughs to Applications” was held in Guildford (the UK), at the University of Surrey on July 24-26, 2019. The Workshop was focused on the theme “What next in ab initio theory?” The aim of the workshop was to highlight wider picture of the theory of nuclear structure and reactions as well as solve other global problems – from astrophysics to nuclear technologies. Almost 25 leading specialists in the field of theoretical nuclear physics made 30 minutes reports.
27th International Conference on Nuclear Physics (INPC 2019) was a concomitant of the 3 days’ workshop, which was held from July 29 to August 2, 2019 in Glasgow (the UK). The Conference is conducted every 3 years and is the biggest Conference on fundamental nuclear physics in the world, which is under control of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). The newest works from the completely wide range of nuclear physics fields were presented – from study of hadron to heavy nuclides and the place of nuclear physics in our understanding of the Universe.
Tatiana Vlasenko, Head of Nuclear Facility Safety Department, and Kostiantyn Cherevko, scientist of the Department, participated in the Workshop and International Conference as representatives of the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP of the NAS of Ukraine. They presented two posters:
- On nuclear fragmentation at the intermediate energy in head-on heavy ion collisions.
- On evaluating correction to the surface energy of the nuclei due to the surface curvature and its influence on the orientation effects in fusion reactions.
