Visit to OECD/NEA Workshop January 24–29, 2019
Within the framework of Memorandum for Information Exchange between the ISP NPP and JAEA (Japan Atomic Energy Agency), Safety Research Opportunities Post-Fukushima (SAREF) Joint Workshop on Fukushima Daiichi decommissioning and relevant NEA activities were held at Paris OECD/NEA Headquarters, on Thursday, January 24, 2019. The NEA hosted this workshop with the support of Nuclear Regulatory Authority and other Japanese organizations.
Workshop working moments as was recommended by the CSNI (Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations) Senior Expert Group on SAREF and approved by the CSNI, the objective of the workshop was to share updated information gained from the progress of the Fukushima Daiichi decommissioning and from relevant NEA activities. The workshop held also an extensive discussion on possible coordination and proposals for future international activities. Representatives from CSNI and its subsidiary Working Groups and international joint research projects as well as from NEA Radioactive Waste Management Committee (RWMC) and Nuclear Science Committee (NSC) attended this event.
The Joint Workshop was opened by William D. Magwood NEA Director General .
On January 24 two Sessions were held:
Session 1: Status of Fukushima Daiichi NPPs and decommissioning activities;
Session 2: Relevant NEA projects: possible coordination and suggestions on future activities, which presented the Reports of RWMC Expert Group, Analysis of Information from Reactor Building and Containment Vessels of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (ARC-F) project, Preparatory Study on Analysis of Fuel Debris (PreADES) project, and Thermodynamic Characterization of Fuel Debris and Fission Products Based on Scenario Analysis of Severe Accident Progression at Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (TCOFF) project.
At the end of Sessions, possible coordination and suggestions on future activities were discussed.
On January 25, 28 and 29, 2019 the 3 rd meeting of OECD/NEA SAREF/PreADES Project was held.

- Technical discussion for Task 2 – Analytical table for Criticality control.
January 28
- Technical discussion for Task 2 – Containment function.
- Technical discussion for Task 2 – Radiation exposure.
- Technical discussion for Task 2 – Maintaining cooling function.
January 29
- Technical discussion for Task 2 – Work steps for PreADES Task 2-2 (Task 2-2: Study on safety major issues related to future debris sampling, analysis, transport and storage and Work steps for PreADES Task 2-3.

Viktor Krasnov Head of the Division for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (NRSD) and Valentyn Bezmylov the leading engineer of the NRSD took part in the workshop from the ISP NPP of the NAS of Ukraine. Two reports were presented: “Current status of ISP NPP contribution in OECD/NEA PreADES Project 2019 (Criticality Control)” and “Current status of ISP NPP contribution in OECD/NEA PreADES Project 2019 (Radioactive Aerosols)”.
