Session of Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
On May 16, 2018, the Session of Presidium No. 8 dated May 16, 2018 of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was held under the chairmanship of the academician Anton Naumovets – first vice-president NAS of Ukraine.
The first issue of the session was devoted to consideration of report «Strategic directions of activity on transformation of the Shelter object into an ecologically safe system after the commissioning of the New Safe Confinement», presented by director of the ISP NPP, corr. memb. NAS of Ukraine – Anatolii Nosovskyi. The discussion was attended by director of State Enterprise «State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety» Ihor Shevchenko, Head of the Department for ChNPP Matters and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management – Maria Verbilo, Head of the Strategic Planning Department of the SSE «Chornobyl NPP» Dmitry Stelmakh, academician NAS of Ukraine Vyacheslav Shestopalov and academician NAS of Ukraine Alexander Kirilenko.
Having heard and discussed the report of Anatolii Nosovskyi, the Presidium of NAS of Ukraine noted necessity of constant attention to the Shelter object, created after the Chornobyl accident in 1986, that despite the New Safe Confinement arrangement is still an ecologically dangerous object.
The Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine decided:
- Consider scientific research on transformation the Shelter object into an ecologically safe system as one of the priority directions for fundamental and applied research of specialized institutions of NAS of Ukraine.
- Approve the strategic activity directions on transforming the Shelter object into an ecologically safe system after the commissioning of the New Safe Confinement and also recommend to SSE «Chornobyl NPP» their use while updating the existing strategy for such transformation.
The session was attended by the employees of the ISP NPP as: assistant director – Eu. M. Kudin, scientific secretary – O. M. Shevtsova, head of the Nuclear Power Engineering Branch – V. I. Borisenko.
