The event dedicated to this memorable day was attended by people’s deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 1- 8th convocations who directly participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident, specialists in the field of nuclear energy, liquidators from public Chornobyl organizations, representatives of ministries and departments of Ukraine, bodies of state executive authorities and scientists.
The meeting began with a minute of silence and commemoration of the liquidators that gone as a result of the Chornobyl accident.
Anatoly Nosovskiy, director of the Institute for Safety Problems of NPP of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, took part in the round table. In his speech, he raised the issue of public opinion particularly about the negative attitude of society to nuclear energy, caused by the unauthorized and false publications in mass media, which most of all fuel unreasonable fear of the population. He offered to the honorable assembly to publish only true information related to the nuclear energy. By demonstrating to society how the processes of overcoming the Chornobyl problem and increasing the level of nuclear safety at NPP, showing improvement of the operation of nuclear facilities can significantly strengthen the position for further development of nuclear power industry in Ukraine.
In the second part of his speech, Anatoly Nosovskiy paid attention of the members of assembly for the problem that the ISP NPP grappled with, and which should be solved for certain. The point is that capturing of a part of the Institute’s territory by a group of unknown persons, who for almost a year illegally retain the territory and property belonging to the management of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian authorities do nothing to return it to government ownership. This information excited the curiosity Anatoly Matviyenko – the people’s deputy of Ukraine, who invited to send a corresponding application in his name to solute this issue.
