International THEREMIN project
Underway 2018–2019 years the ISP NPP of Ukraine’s NAS will be involved in International THEREMIN project – «Thermal treatment for radwaste minimization and reduction» being held under European Commission support.
The THERAMIN project aims to provide long-term safe storage of radioactive wastes and removal of interim- and low-level wastes suitable to thermal treatment. Its working program is destined to demonstrate coordination and researches in EU-wide strategic review and assessment of the value of thermal technologies applicable to a broad range of waste streams, as well to enhance procedure preparedness level in order to accelerate their industrial implementation and to reveal the efficiency of national programs for waste control and NPPs decommission.
On October 15-19, 2018, within this Program framework, a training and familiarization with advanced technologies for radwaste conditioning, headed by Prof. Neil Hyatt, were held in Sheffield University (United Kingdom) laboratories.
From ISP NPP of Ukraine’s NAS, this event was attended by Viktor Krasnov, Head of Nuclear & Radiation Safety Division.
